Our lineup of bands, going east to west:
Just a Cupcake Café & Bakery hosts the 2015 Rising Band Nashville Award winning band, Spechlis. Sheyenne Rivers and Daniel Ericks of Spechlis say their music is a “delicate balance between Americana and pop with notes of folk, bluegrass and rock.”
At Sheffield Business Center, the Dave Adams Band takes the stage at 5pm, and Nathan Whitt at 7:45.
Out of Ocala, the Dave Adams Band was voted 2016 Blues Band of the Year by North Florida Blues Association, and Dave Adams was voted as Blues Guitarist of the Year by the North Florida Blues Association in 2016. They play classic rock, country and blues, “songs you just don’t often hear anymore.”
Whitt, who recently released an album called Someday Isle, has a music style that is described as “groovy funk with a splash of jazz.” During his decades-long music career, he has had two songs on the top 40 charts. His current album is number 23 on the iTunes chart. Whitt is sponsored by Comfort Suites Dunnellon.
At Badcock Home Furniture & More, Cliff Sanders takes the stage at 5, followed by Dr. John and the Medicine Show at 7:15.
Sanders is a country and rock ‘n roll artist from Crystal River. He frequently plays local venues such as the Blue Gator.
Dr. John and the Medicine Show plays classic rock from the 50s to 80s. Hailing from Gainesville, four of their six members are teachers.
The next location is the west end of the Go For Donuts plaza. Here we will host lifelong bluesman Keith Caton at 5, and local classic rock favorite Final Note at 7:45.
Caton has performed at Jazz Up many times, but this will be his first time performing solo.
Dunnellon-based Final Note performs songs from as far back as the 1950s to the early 2000s as well as styles ranging from jazz, rock and blues. They are a local favorite comprised of members of the Michel family, who by day run Kelly’s Auto Repair Service on Highway 488. The six member band, which plays music from the 50s to today, has been playing together for about 14 years.
In front of the Chamber building is Matt Prater at 7:45. Prater is a singer and songwriter from Alabama. Prater’s latest album, Same Ole Highway Blues, was just released. Prater’s music is a blend of country, folk, and he draws upon his family and his upbringing as the son of a cattle farmer in northern Alabama as a source of inspiration for many of his songs. Matt has been surrounded by music and musicians his entire life, but only started writing and performing live in 2006.
Crossing over to the west side of Pennsylvania Avenue is Cutler Spur and the Intruder Band and Shadow Ridge at the corner.
Playing at 5 is Cutler Spur, sponsored by Keith Taylor Law Group, LLC. Cutler Spur is a blend of old school country with southern rock flavor. Cutler will be joined by The Intruder Band from the Tampa area.
Shadow Ridge, a country, rock and blues band from Spring Hill, takes over at 7:45.
The next talent is at Attorney Mike Evans’ building. Here event-goers can hear the Bob Cubbage Jazz Ensemble at 5 and Cathy Dewitt with jazz quartet MoonDancer at 7:45.
Performing for over 15 years, the Bob Cubbage Ensemble is comprised of lifetime musicians all of whom want to keep the Jazz Standards alive and well.
Cathy Dewitt is an award-winning songwriter and performer from Gainesville. She has been compared vocally to Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall.
At the Two Sisters are Buddy Shaw and Jon Semmes at 5 and the band Chrome at 7:45.
Local favorites Semmes and Shaw, sponsored by Al’s TV Antenna & Satellite Dish Authorized Dealer, play classic rock, blues and country. Semmes is the talent behind Singing River Tours where he has spent many years sharing his knowledge of Florida’s ecology through story and song.
The trio Chrome is a variety band from Williston, playing country, classic rock, blues and southern rock.
Down at the corner of Pennsylvania and Cedar by the Two Rivers Inn is the Smith Brothers Band followed by local favorite R-Style.
The Smith Brothers Band out of Ocala consists of two brothers who are retired educators, John and Bill Smith, and their friend Mike Cayse. They play standards, classic rock and roll, country, swing and Christian gospel.
R-Style, sponsored by H. Michael Evans, PA, is a local band with a lot of loyal followers. One of their career highlights was opening for Molly Hatchet at the Brick City Beer and Wine Festival in Ocala. They play classic and southern rock and if you like what you hear, you can see them again. They frequently play at the Blue Gator.
And last but not least, rounding out the west side entertainment are Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues at 5pm at Cedar Street Boutique at The Grumbles House followed by the Community Swing Band.
Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues are a blues and boogie woogie piano and guitar duo from St. Petersburg. They just returned from being on tour in Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia. They are no strangers to Jazz Up, having played here for 12 years.
The Community Swing Band from Citrus County is a large group of musicians of all ages who play big band, swing, jazz, blues and Latin jazz.
